Energy storage, most commonly lithium-ion batteries, which are the same technology as the batteries used in your laptop or cell phone, store electricity generated from energy projects and discharges it later. When paired with solar, energy storage balances the second-by-second supply and demand of power and can shift energy during times of abundant supply to times of peak demand or when the sun isn’t shining.
